Happy hour is now served at tea time. Or maybe tea time is now happy hour? Either way, this twist on a a Hot Toddy is a welcoming cocktail to warm you up during these cold winter months.

You know what else is a good reason for happy hour? Whole30 is over!! You better believe I ate those churro waffles I saved from the brunch I couldn’t enjoy this past weekend. And I may be checking out a fried chicken place for lunch today. I promise I’m not diving off the deep end. Mostly because I’m afraid how my body will respond.

Other than what I’ve mentioned the rest of our meals for the week remain Whole30 compliant. We have been enjoying the recipes we’ve found and figured we will just keep working them in. But then there’s the Super Bowl… I swear I’m going to attempt to keep up these good habits I’ve maintained for the last 30 days.

Boozy Tea Time 1

Everyone kept asking me if I was excited for it to be over, but honestly it was not much of a struggle. Breakfast was a bit challenging at times when I got sick of eggs and I had the occasional pang for dessert (mostly when it was sitting right in front of me) but for the most part everything we ate was delicious and therefore didn’t leave much room for complaining. I also posted a roundup of all our favorite Whole30 recipes. But I digress.

There’s a bit more to talk about for this cocktail! In order to help you make this for yourself, I teamed up with Nielsen-Massey to host a giveaway for a bottle of their orange extract. Use the Rafflecopter widget located at the end of this post to enter.

Wow – you had me at “boozy”. I do love a good cocktail, even when it’s cold. I usually opt for hot buttered rum, or mulled wine – but this one might make it into the rotation! I love Nielsen-Massey products, such amazing quality!

All of those are great options too. I hope you try this!

Congrats on making it through Whole30 – enjoy alllll the boozy things! I’m super intrigued by the orange extract – I love the Nielsen-Massey madagascar bourbon vanilla paste!

Diet and me are far apart and I am so happy that you made it through. We don’t drink, but if I did, this would be something I would definitely go for in winters.

You could totally make it without the rum!

You had me at ‘boozy’ ???? I recently made a tequila spiked hot chocolate and it was so good. I’ve been looking for ideas for more hot cocktails since then and this the first one I’ve found. Def giving it a go next weekend :D

Oh wow I’ve never had a boozy hot chocolate! I tend to be wary of dairy and alcohol. But I’d try it ;-)

I like to try that orange extract. By the way your boozy tea sound I like the touch of orange extract and honey. I can have them during the summer days.

You can have it year round!

THIS is exactly what we need in this house, well at least for my husband and I. I think this tea would be amazingly delicious without the spiced rum for my kids too! Then hopefully we can cure this cold once and for all!

Yes! Cure for all! Hope it helps.

This would be great for the cold day we are having in Chicago. I love the orange flavor that you get from Nielsen-Massey orange extract.

We are tea lovers in this house. I have not tried that extract…but do use the vanilla ALL the time. We are wine lovers, but hey…we are up to trying something new too.

I love this pure orange extract! I’ve been using it in my baking for many years – it’s a great ingredient to have in the pantry.

I’m ready for happy hour right now — surely it’s time somewhere in the world. I don’t normally spike my tea since I have it for breakfast but I could certainly make a special tea for the afternoon. Cheers!!

This looks like just what the doctor would order for a sore throat or cold. I just know it would make me feel better to be sipping this delicious looking drink. Will definitely have to try this soon! Thank you for sharing!

I haven’t had any cocktails hot or cold in ages. When I last did have one, it was with hot mulled cider, I’m not sure what was the alcohol, a little something tipsy and spices so good.

I think the the ingredients make it possible to justify sipping this toddy all day if you have a cold. Don’t you? ;) It really does sound wonderfully warming. With toddies, Whole30, or anything else, moderation is key. :) I love Neilsen-Massey extracts and flavorings!

You kinda had me at orange extract. I don’t think there’s enough orange-flavoured things in the world – by far, one of my favourite flavours. Is is weird that my pantry is NEVER without a good selection of extracts – orange included? :)

Who am I to judge? I have more extracts than a grocery store! I legit have back up supplies.

I’m not usually big into cocktails..more of a wine drinker, but this sounds like a good combination of flavors. I don’t really do the diet things but I certainly have cravings I sometimes struggle with.

I love me some spiked hot tea! And I’m super impressed that Whole 30 wasn’t a challenge- I did Dry January with no desserts either, and was in TEARS I because I wanted chocolate! And I don’t even eat it that often! (I don’t do well with diets. Lol)

Haha, I was actually surprised how easy it was too! The first week I had some serious dessert cravings, but I’ve found once I reach the 5-7 day mark my cravings tend to face.

Hot buttered rum.

I’ll bet you’re right! I don’t think I’d even need the butter, whipped cream, maple syrup or anything else for these – that’s how much I love plain churros… Now all I need is a waffle iron and room to store it.

Reply
Susan February 2, 2017 - 1:42 pm

One of us is going to have to figure that one out… I’ll try to do some research (wish I knew something about waffle batter).

Churro waffles? Recipe to be forthcoming? I certainly hope so, as that would be an excellent reason to finally buy a waffle iron. Glad you made it through Whole 30. Favorite winter cocktail: none, mostly not a cocktail drinker, though this tea sounds wonderful. I could go for that.

Unfortunately no recipe, it was from a brunch event at which I could not eat anything due to Whole30 but I took some home with me to eat when it was over, hence this morning.
