Red, White & Blue Sangria

by Erin

Let the patriotic celebrations begin with this red, white and blue white wine sangria. Complete with star-shaped apple slices.

Red White and Blue Sangria 2

The USA takes on Belgium today for the final game in the round of sixteen. With the 4th of July this week I decided to mix up a white wine sangria with red (strawberries), white (apples) and blue (blueberries) fruit floating around in it. Another cute idea would be red, white, and blue jello shots.

But that’s not all folks, the apples are cut into star shapes to make it even more patriotic. It appeals to taste buds and patriots! I unfortunately will be working (without a glass of this sangria in hand) but thankfully the location at which I am today has a TV within view from the front desk, so you better know what channel I will have it set on.

RED, WHITE & BLUE SANGRIA

Serves 4-6

Ingredients:

1 apple, sliced crosswise and stamped with a star cookie cutter

1 cup sliced strawberries

1 cup blueberries

1 (750 ml) bottle of white wine (I used Forest Edge Bluegrass Blend sweet white wine)

1/2 cup triple sec

1/2 cup fruity vodka (I used cranberry)

1/2 cup fruit juice (I used apple juice)

2 Tbsp sugar, optional

Directions:

  1. Place fruit in a large glass pitcher. Add remaining ingredients and stir until sugar is dissolved (if using). Cover and store in the refrigerator for at least a couple hours, best overnight.
  2. Serve over ice (with a splash of lemon-lime soda or club soda if desired). Garnish with more fruit.

Substituting the star cut apples for Star Fruit was a great idea.
