Buckeye Date Shake

by Erin

Buckeye date shakes are an Ohio take on a Southern Californian classic. Sweet dates, creamy peanut butter, and rich cocoa powder are blended together with vanilla ice cream for a delightful treat.

In honor of Ohio State playing USC tonight, I have created yet another buckeye version of a local classic to our opponents.

Date palms thrive in the desert climate of Southern California, responsible for 90% of the date production in the US, and as a result they have found their way into many versions of a date shake but usually consisting of dates and ice cream and sometimes nut butter. Evidently these date milkshakes are most popular in Palm Springs but somehow I totally missed them when I went a few years ago. Guess I need to go back!

In the meantime, I made a buckeye date shake with peanut butter and a little bit a cocoa powder added. Topped with some whipped cream and scarlet and gray sprinkles and I am ready to cheer on the buckeyes tonight!
