Not Invited Party

What do you do when you cannot invite everyone you know to your wedding? You throw a Not Invited Party!

The last thing most people want to think about after planning a wedding is planning anything else. But Bob and I planned a party to happen a week after our wedding called the “Not Invited Party”! We struggled a lot with our guest list due to the constraints of our venue capacity and the size of our families (which obviously took first priority). So instead of feeling guilty about it, we threw a party for everyone we didn’t invite to our actual wedding. No gifts, just hanging out in our backyard, continuing the merriment of the week before.

Not Invited Party

It worked our great because we had lots of booze leftover to share (despite using all those online calculators)! In addition to plenty of polaroid film, some spaces to fill in our guest book, flowers that were still kicking, and honey favors – all which were taken advantage of by out not invited guests. At first we were worried people might be offended but thankfully everyone was just glad to be included at all! I’m sure it didn’t hurt that we had a great spread of food to go with it.

Sunnyside Tacos

We had tacos slinging in our backyard guys! Talk about a dream come true. I wish Josh form Sunnyside Tacos could hang out in our backyard every weekend (instead we have to settle for catching him at the Clintonville Farmers Market that we can walk to from our house). I may have eaten my weight in tacos I was so excited – had to make sure I tried every flavor combo possible. I highly recommend stopping by if you every spy his cart at an event. Or better yet hit him up for your own event. He actually can do a full catered event, not just tacos, but we wanted to keep it simple.

But of course we couldn’t just leave it at tacos. To make sure we had enough food, I made a whole spread of dips to pair with the tacos including a 7 layer black bean hummus dip, cheesy corn dip (which people about lost their minds over), and enchilada dip. I also made sure to have plenty of locally made Ridiculously Good Salsa on hand. And yes it lives up to it’s name.

About that leftover alcohol I mentioned earlier. In keeping with the theme, I picked up mint and blood orange lemonade from Simple Times Mixers to which I added vodka and rum, respectively (get 10% with code SPIFFY10). I think I refilled the dispenser’s at least twice because people were loving them. Good thing I bought 2 gallons of mixer!

Don’t worry I didn’t forget about dessert. Originally we thought for sure we would have some leftovers from the wedding that we could freeze for the party, but boy were we wrong! So I made Mexican brownies paired with dulce de leche ice cream and watermelon sorbet from my favorite Columbus made Indulgence Ice Cream.

If you haven’t noticed we took every chance we could to include some of our favorite Columbus makers into our celebrations in some way because they’ve become friends as well. Makes everything that much more special when the things you purchase are not only supporting local businesses but also people you know. And then getting to share it all with more friends and family!

Thank you again and again to everyone who traveled near and far for our wedding, for making it a day(s) to remember, and just being you. To those that could not make it, know that you were missed! <3

I’m envious of those who were invited to this party – it sounds like it was really great. And I love the idea of having a special party for those who you couldn’t fit into your wedding venue. You and Bob really did it right. I hope that means you will have a very long and happy marriage.
