Can you believe it?! The Spiffy Cookie is 5 years old! You are invited to celebrate my blog’s 5th anniversary and help me learn more about you!
Five years people! That is the number of years that The Spiffy Cookie has been on the blogosphere.
I started when I was in my 4th year of grad school, 25 years old, and living with my now ex-boyfriend and 1 cat in a one-bedroom apartment in Memphis, TN. I had a tiny kitchen, limited funds, and was just learning that taking pictures of food was a whole different beast than the rest of the world.
Now I have my PhD complete with a big person job in Columbus, OH, came to terms with the big 3-0, live with my current boyfriend in a 3 bedroom house complete with 2 cats and 1 dog, have slightly less limited funds, have had the pleasure of transitioning from stalker follower to friend of some pretty stellar food bloggers, and thus far have 1,461 posts (some of which involve overcoming previous food phobias or dislikes).
Fun fact? I still have the same blog layout as I did when I started but I hope to change that in the near future.

Five years ago: And so it begins
I started this blog for slightly selfish reasons, wanting to catalog the recipes I had tried with the changes I had made and allowed for easier sharing with friends and family. But it has since grown over the years into a source that others enjoy as well, something I hadn’t dreamed of 5 years ago. Which leaves me feeling immense gratitude to all of you, family and friends whom I was convinced would be my only readers, the silent readers and seasoned commenters letting me know what’s up, strangers turned into friends, and the amazing entity that is the food blogging community. I may flounder at times but you are still here putting up with my nonsense and that means more to me than I can express through a giant THANK YOU alone.
So instead of just saying thank you or baking something for you, I am turning the tables around and want to learn more about you! I do enough one-sided blabbing on here and feel the need to be a listener for a change so I’ve created this short 10-question survey to do just that. As a reward I have some pretty spiffy prizes to give away including a CorningWare pie pan, six Pyrex 2-cup measuring cups, and a 6-pack of PB&Co. peanut butter! Okay, that was weird. After I posted that I couldn’t find the survey and found it by your link you posted by another person who couldn’t see it…after that..when the page refreshed for my reply? The survey was there and I had to do it again.
Do you mean the page refreshed when you added your first comment? That is normal for submitting a comment. If you hit submit on the survey before doing so however, your answers would have been saved and it just brought up the survey again. Sorry for the confusion! Since you did it again if it for some reason didn’t work the first time, it should have the second time! Thanks for taking the time to redo it just in case though.
I couldn’t see the survey. I found it by scrolling down where you posted the link for someone else who had issues. After that it was a piece of cake…..or pie….mmm…pie..

Yay me too! Although I am sure I would’ve found your eventually if you hadn’t found me first. Seriously I am jealous of your skills. But as for post grad school life yea, my first real person job doesn’t pay that much more than my grad school stipend haha.

Congratulations on 5 years!! I don’t remember how I found your blog, but it has long been one of my favorites (even though I do my best to avoid most of the chocolate/peanut butter/sinful recipes.
One comment I forgot to make on the survey is that in addition to all the great recipes I now make regularly, I also appreciate that you have stimulated my creative juices. The thing that immediately comes to mind is the key lime cinnamon rolls that I made into overnight oats.
Your blog is a lot of fun, and has enriched my recipe repertoire immensely.
