Review: Baking Basics and Beyond

by Erin

Are you a novice baker needing some help taking the dive into baking? Or maybe you are already pretty experienced but want to improve your technique, possibly in a particular area? Either way, you can learn something from Baking Basics and Beyond: Learn These Simple Techniques and Bake Like a Pro.

This cookbook starts out by introducing you to the general baking techniques and tools needed for almost all forms of baking – from what the different types of flours are to how to melt chocolate. You then will find each chapter dedicated to certain baking styles such as: biscuits and scones, brownies and bars, custards and bread puddings, and yeast breads and rolls, to name a few. The chapters begin with a slightly more in depth idea of what baking these items entails before showing you the recipes, which provide even further helpful hints at the end of each recipe. Many are also complimented by beautiful photos.

Even though I have had my share of experiences with baking I did learn a  few things going through this cookbook. I even tried out two of the recipes and took photos to share with you. Both came out wonderfully and I have several other recipes marked for the future.

Banana Bran Bread (with dried apricots)

I also used this to make banana bread french toast – incredible!

Asiago Biscuit Twists

I served them with split-pea soup

Disclosure: I received a copy of Baking Basics and Beyond to review. I was not compensated for this post and the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
