2-Nerd and baby-lover that I am, I know exactly why human babies are so helpless: developmentally they’re still fetuses until about 1. Due to our large brains and our small pelvises (because of the whole walking upright thing) if we let babies gestate as long as would really be best, they’d never get out. SO we birth them when they’re still very helpless. This is also how things like monogamy and father parenting and stuff have become a thing because those little helpless babies need a lot of people to help take care of it!
