Berry Spinach Smoothie

Skeptical about a spinach smoothie? Try this one packed with a cup of spinach and even more berries to disguise it.

I’ve seen many variations of the green monster “detox” smoothie going around after the binge-eating holiday season. But I wasn’t quite ready to try out that green concoction despite many people saying they cannot tell there is spinach in it. Sorry for being a skeptic, but I had to try one that at least looked like it was still mostly fruit.

This version hides a cup of fresh spinach behind half a banana and 1-1/2 cups of mixed frozen berries.

Berries and Spinach Smoothie.

When I saw this recipe, I knew it would be my stepping stone. Strangely enough I could taste the single tablespoon of peanut butter more than the full cup of spinach in this. But the fruit was definitely the stronger flavor over all.

And wouldn’t you know, this was the only the beginning, because I then went on to make my own green monster spinach smoothie, as well as a red monster too!

Glad you enjoyed it! Baby steps to the big Green Monster!:) I put peanut butter in my Green Monsters too…it really helps to mask the flavor.

So glad to see you got past your fear of “will it taste like spinach?” and tried this! I was also super skeptical a couple years ago about the taste as well. The green color can be a bit disconcerting so I simply put it in a solid-colored to-go coffee mug with the lid on – problem solved. Can’t weird me out if I can’t see it! ;) Mine just used peanut butter, apples, and bananas, but this looks like a great recipe for berries!
