Homemade Taco Seasoning

When you make your seasonings blends at home, you can ensure the ingredients are fresh! Try this homemade taco seasoning for your next taco night.

I’ve always felt that the taco seasoning packets you can purchase at the grocery store were just a tad bit too salty. Then one day I found a recipe to make it myself, and I opted to reduce the salt. I’ve never looked back; it’s been years since I have used the packaged stuff! This recipe is what I use for my stock.

HOMEMADE TACO SEASONING

Makes the equivalent of 5 packets

Ingredients:

1/4 cup chili powder

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

1 tsp dried oregano

2 tsp paprika

2 Tbsp ground cumin

2 tsp sea salt

4 tsp black pepper

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together all ingredients. Store in an airtight container.
  2. To use, add 1/8 cup (2 Tbsp) seasoning + 3/4 cup water per pound of meat (or to taste).

Homemade spice mixes are the best. They not only taste better, they are lower in sodium and you know exactly what’s in them!

I keep a jar of similar homemade taco seasoning in my cabinet at all times! It’s great to add flavor to just about anything!

I first started making my own after finding a recipe in Secret Recipe Club. Your photos of the jar of seasoning and the colorful spices are gorgeous.
