Erin of Dinners, Dishes, and Desserts is hosting a bake sale with all proceeds going to the Colorado Disaster Relief Fund c/o Red Cross to help the Colorado wildfire victims. So far this summer, Colorado has suffered from two destructive fires. Hundreds of homes and acres of land have been destroyed, and thousands of people are still evacuated from their homes. Only one of the fires has been contained, but both continue to burn. Fighting these fires has cost over $50 million so far and there is still work to be done.

Today, July 8th the auction will start. Bidding will begin at $15, with increments of $5 after that.  Everything will be done via email. For every $5 spent (for a winning bid), you will also earn 1 raffle ticket. Winners will be chosen at random at the close of the auction on July 9th. All of the rules and regulations will be spelled out on Dinners, Dishes, and Desserts.

When it comes to choosing a pet, I am a big supporter of adoption from nonprofit animal shelters and pet rescue organizations. There are so many loving cats and dogs that need a home! I adopted Brady from a local animal shelter almost 4 years ago (before I knew of The House of Mews) and he is the biggest love muffin ever.

However, nonprofit organizations such as The House of Mews do require some help. Last fall I ran the The House Mews 8th Annual Meowathon and currently am helping to promote their Annual Food Drive with this bake sale! Did you know that just $20 buys an entire month of lunches for four homeless kitties housed in their sanctuary? To make the deal even sweeter, you can also get a baked good for yourself through this bake sale. Even if you are not a cat person I am sure you cannot deny a sweet looking treat. There is even a batch of dog treats up for grabs as well if you have furry friends to please.

The bake sale will be begin on Wednesday, April 11th starting at 6:00 am CDT and will end Thursday, April 12th at 11:00 pm CDT. There is a minimum bid of $15 on each item to start, and all proceeding bids must be at least $1 higher. All bids must be emailed to SpiffyCookie@gmail.com with the item you are bidding on in the subject line. Do not leave a bid as a comment because it will not be counted! I will update the bids in a list at the bottom of this post throughout the day.

Upon the closure of bidding time, I will notify the winning bidders in order to confirm instructions for payment, and also to retrieve their mailing address for their winnings. Winners will also be announced in a new post on Friday, April 13th. Winning goods will be sent within a week of the bake sale’s end (by Saturday, April 21st) so long as shipping address is received promptly.

A friend of mine’s twin brother, Dave, was in a motorcycle accident on August 20th. He sustained multiple injuries including a fractured left ankle and a right below the knee amputation. Currently, he is in rehabilitation and once his legs heal, David will need a prosthetic leg to walk again.

Since the gift of walking does not come without a price, his family has organized a “5K Run for Dave” on October 15th, with all proceeds going towards aiding in the purchase of a prosthesis and paying medical bills. Unfortunately I will be unable to participate in the race but figured I should put this blog thing here to good use (other than making people drool over virtual images of food). Why not let my fine readers have a bidding war over what their eyes have been feasting upon? All of the bid funds will be directly sent to the same fund set up for the “5k Run for Dave”.
