Cheetos Marshmallow Crispy Treats

by Erin

Put a savory twist on your everyday crispy treats with Cheetos. Crushed up Cheetos in place of puffed rice cereal will shock  and intrigue but don’t let it scare you. Try it yourself!

Cheetos Marshmallow Crispy Treats 1

Today is National Cheese Day which is a food item worthy of rejoicing. But I did something a bit different to celebrate – I made cheesy crispy treats using Cheetos. Yes you read that correctly.

Instead of puffed rice cereal, slightly crushed crunchy Cheetos are mixed with the melted butter-marshmallow mixture and then pressed into a greased pan to set. Cut and serve just like any other rice crispy bar and then watch the confused reactions around you.

I brought these to a small pot luck and most of the initial reactions were “I don’t know how to feel about this” but slowly admitted that they actually enjoyed them which was proven by the disappearance of the bars. They may not be for everyone but sweet and salty is a thing for a reason!

Same thing goes for when I made chocolate covered Cheetos ;-).

CHEETOS MARSHMALLOW CRISPY TREATS

Makes 12 treats

Ingredients:

2 bags (7 oz. each) crunchy Cheetos

3 Tbsp unsalted butter

1 (10 oz.) bag miniature marshmallows

Directions:

  1. Lightly spray a 7×11-inch baking dish; set aside.
  2. Open a bag of Cheetos to let the air out. Scrunch the opening back up to close, then crushed the bags to break up the Cheetos in roughly smaller pieces. Repeat with the second bag then set aside.
  3. In a large sauce pan, melt the butter. Once melted, add the marshmallows and continue to heat over medium low heat, stirring constantly until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth. Immediately, and quickly, stir in the two bags of Cheetos. Continue to gently mix until the marshmallows are evenly distributed.
  4. Transfer immediately to the prepare baking dish and press to evenly spread. Let cool, then cut into squares.
